Trump Caught in Possible Insider Trading Scandal
On April 9, mere hours before applying a 90-day pause to numerous tariffs, President Trump posted on Truth Social, a platform composed mostly of his own supporters, "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT" as seen in this screenshot:
This has sparked theories about the President aiding his own supporters through insider trading--insider trading meaning that he provided limited information to give his supporters an advantage in the stock market. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), a close Trump ally, reportedly bought between $10,000 and $150,000 worth of stock on the same day that this was posted by Trump. The day before, Greene bought between $11,000 and $165,000 worth of stock. New York Attorney General Letitia James is examining if insider trading took place in regards to the 90-day tariff pause. It is still unclear whether the President actually engaged in insider trading, but it is possible.
