Liberals Win Canada’s Election

Canada’s Liberal Party has won Canada’s election, while the Canadian Conservative Party suffered a huge defeat—the leader of their party lost his seat in  Parliament. POTUS Donald Trump heavily influenced this result. Just months before the election, it seemed that Conservatives would  win by a 25-point margin. Justin Trudeau, the country’s Liberal Prime Minister, was unpopular and a defeat of the Liberal Party seemed certain. President Trump’s threats to annex Canada and make it the 51st state angered Canadians. Because Trump aligns more with the Conservative Party in Canada than the Liberal Party, Canadians started to favor the Liberals. Trudeau had to call an election by October 2025. Trudeau announced on January 6, 2025 that he would resign until a new Liberal Party leader was chosen. But despite Trudeau’s unpopularity, it seems as if the Liberal Party will lead the next Canadian government. The Liberal Party is projected to have 168 seats in Parliament, four seats short of a majorIty. It is likely this will result in a Liberal minority government. The Conservative Party is projected to have won 144 seats, Bloc Québécois is projected to have won 23, the NDP is projected to have won 7, and Green Party is projected to have won 1.
