After a shorter than normal Conclave, Cardinal Robert Prevost has been selected as the new pope. This comes after the death of Pope Francis, the previous pope. Prevost chose the name Leo XIV as his papal name. Prevost is the first American pope in history. He was elected on the fourth ballot of the Conclave and is the 267th pope. Prevost has taken more progressive stances on LGBTQ+ issues and immigration.
