At 7:35 am Vatican time on Easter Monday, Pope Francis died of a cerebral stroke and a subsequent heart failure. Francis was the first Latin American pope and struggled with heart problems in the past such as pneumonia, high blood pressure, and Type II diabetes. Cardinal Kevin Farrell is an interim leader for the Vatican until a new pope is chosen (he is not the actual head of the church, just takes over administrative duties). A new pope will be chosen by cardinals during a ceremony known as the conclave. It may take two to three weeks for a new pope to be chosen.
