Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng said that China and the U.S. have made "substantial progress" in trade talks and even reached an "important consensus". American Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the talks were "productive". Bessent also said that President Trump was "fully informed" about the talks. These talks come in the aftermath of the tariffs announced on April 2 by U.S. President Donald Trump. National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett commented that there were "about 24 trade deals" in development.
